Dr. Dylan Maddix is an Assistant Professor of Instrumental Conducting and Community Engagement at the School of Music, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He leads the Memorial University Wind Ensemble and Concert Winds, while teaching undergraduate and graduate conducting courses. His roles include conducting, academic leadership, and community-focused music initiatives.
Education: B.Mus (Mount Allison University), M.Mus (University of Toronto), D.M.A. (Arizona State University). His mentors include notable figures like Jason Caslor and Joe Burgstaller.
Research interests focus on music education, ensemble leadership, and community engagement. Maddix is active in professional organizations, serving on the board of the Newfoundland and Labrador Band Association and as a past chair of the Canadian Band Association. He co-hosts The Band Room Podcast and hosts Changing Your Pattern, exploring conducting and music pedagogy.
