Dr. Siobhan Hickling is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia's School of Population and Global Health, where she serves as Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Centre (CERC). With over twenty years of experience, she holds dual appointments in Population and Public Health and maintains active roles in both research and teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, and technical levels. Her research spans cardiovascular epidemiology, nutritional science, and climate change impacts on food systems. Key focus areas include: Mandatory folate fortification monitoring in Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations Climate change effects on food security Built environment influences on eating behaviors Cardiovascular disease prevention through dietary interventions Hickling's recent publications (2023-2025) reveal strong trends in emergency cardiology diagnostics (troponin assays), children's nutritional environments, and planetary health diets. Her work increasingly integrates climate change considerations with traditional cardiovascular epidemiology, particularly examining sustainable food systems and their health impacts. She serves on critical advisory bodies including: Stroke Prevention Advisory Committee (Stroke Foundation, since 2019) Scientific Advisory Council (Environmental Protection Authority WA, since 2024) and acts as Associate Editor for The European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention. Hickling's grant portfolio demonstrates sustained leadership in population health research, with four major projects including long-term neighborhood livability studies and folate fortification evaluation. Her educational background combines Curtin University degrees (BSc Nutrition, Grad Dip Dietetics, MPH) with a UWA PhD in Public Health focused on folate fortification.
