Alison Krufka is an Associate Professor at Rowan University's College of Science & Mathematics and serves as Associate Dean . She coordinates the Pre-graduate School Advising Program and the Cumberland County Bridge to Rowan Program, focusing on student success and curriculum innovation. Education : BS in Biology from College of William and Mary, PhD in Developmental Biology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Postdoctoral training in Genetics, Cell, and Developmental Biology at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Her research spans three major areas: 1) Integrating biology and engineering through inquiry-based cell culture technology and biomaterials lab modules , 2) Implementing the CREATE approach for teaching scientific inquiry via primary literature analysis, and 3) Developing assessment frameworks for scientific skills-based transfer student courses . She also investigates evolutionary developmental biology of the lateral line system in threespine stickleback and urea cycle gene conservation across species. Her work connects cellular biology with education innovation, using zebrafish models to study ammonia excretion pathways while advancing pedagogical techniques for STEM training. She serves as Program Director for the NIH-sponsored Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program , demonstrating commitment to student pipeline initiatives. Krufka is affiliated with: American Association for the Advancement of Science American Society for Cell Biology Society for Developmental Biology
