Erica Lee Larson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Denver, within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Her research focuses on evolutionary biology, specifically examining how sexual selection and genomic conflict influence the evolution of reproductive traits and speciation. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Cornell University (2013) and a B.S. in Biology from Western Washington University (2004).
Her work integrates genomic, ecological, and behavioral approaches to study hybridization, reproductive barriers, and the genetic mechanisms underlying speciation. Key areas include hybrid sterility in rodents, sensory evolution in sticklebacks, and the role of sex chromosomes in reproductive incompatibilities.
Larson is affiliated with organizations such as the Society for the Study of Evolution and the American Genetics Association. Her lab, Larson Lab, actively engages in collaborative research and education, including projects on community science and innovative teaching methods for evolutionary concepts. She has secured grants, including a CAREER award, to investigate genetic networks in hybrid zones and fertilization barriers.
