Dr. Kevin Parsons is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Evolution & Diversity at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, evo-devo, phenotypic plasticity, and the impacts of environmental changes on species adaptation. He has published extensively on topics such as thermal adaptation in fish, genetic basis of morphological divergence, and the evolutionary mechanisms underlying adaptive radiations.
Research interests include understanding how phenotypic plasticity interacts with genetic factors to drive adaptive responses, particularly in Arctic charr and African cichlids. His work also explores the effects of climate change on metabolic rates and behavior in fish populations. He has been awarded grants from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and others to study topics like metabolic syndrome in geothermal sticklebacks and evolutionary potential under climate change.
Key contributions include studies on developmental bias as a driver of evolutionary divergence, the genetic architecture of trophic morphology in cichlids, and the role of Wnt signaling in craniofacial evolution. His research integrates molecular genetics, developmental biology, and ecological experiments to address fundamental questions in evolutionary biology.
