Matthew Morris, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Biology and co-chair of the Biology program at Ambrose University in Calgary, Alberta. His research focuses on the ecology and evolution of fishes, utilizing DNA barcoding to address topics like invasive species and seafood mislabeling. He also explores the intersection of science and faith, co-authoring work on biblical and biological theologies of naming. Morris holds a PhD in evolutionary biology from the University of Calgary, alongside an MSc in environmental genomics, a BSc from Dalhousie University, and a BRE from Alberta Bible College.
His research interests include the science-religion interface, taxonomy, and evolutionary processes in fish populations. Collaborations with Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary have advanced studies on seafood mislabeling in Calgary, revealing significant fraud rates. Morris teaches courses like Science and Christian Faith and has authored 16 field guides on provincial/state fishes. He is an active member of the Canadian Scientific and Christian Affiliation, emphasizing stewardship through scientific naming practices.
Publications span topics from stickleback genetics to theological reflections on naming. His work integrates evolutionary biology with Christian perspectives, advocating for ethical stewardship in scientific practice. Grants and advisory roles are not explicitly noted, but his research emphasizes collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue.
