Iswar Hariharan is a Professor of Cell Biology in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley . He holds the William V. Power Chair in Biology and is an American Cancer Society Research Professor . His research focuses on mechanisms regulating tissue growth and regeneration using Drosophila as a model system. Key projects include studying growth control pathways (e.g., Hippo, TSC1/2) and regeneration processes in imaginal discs. Education: MBBS from the University of Sydney, PhD from the University of Melbourne. His lab has made significant contributions to understanding tumor suppressor pathways and their relevance to human cancers like tuberous sclerosis and leukemia. Recent work involves single-cell transcriptomics to study regeneration dynamics and epigenetic regulation of damage-response genes. His lab is supported by the NIGMS and includes collaborations on projects such as Echinoid-mediated tissue survival and Yap-driven transcriptional reprogramming. Students and lab members include prominent researchers like Robin Harris (Arizona State) and Justin Bosch (University of Utah). The lab is located at 515 LSA, Berkeley CA 94720.
