Benjamin Macarthur is Professor in both the Faculty of Medicine and School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton, with visiting positions at Kumamoto University and leadership roles at the Alan Turing Institute. His interdisciplinary research combines mathematical modeling, machine learning, and experimental biology to study human health and disease.
Research interests include:
- Machine learning applications in cell and molecular biology
- Structure and function of complex biological networks
- Stem cell dynamics and differentiation
- Mathematical modeling of biological systems
- Data-driven approaches to health research
Recent publications demonstrate innovations in geometric machine learning approaches, stem cell isolation techniques, clinical AI uncertainty quantification, and analysis methods for single-cell sequencing data. Methodological developments include Ricci flow applications for deep learning and differentiation trajectory mapping.
As Director of AI for Science and Government and Programme Director for Health and Medical Sciences at the Alan Turing Institute, leads national initiatives in data science and AI applications for health research.
