معرفی
Mathieu Bakhoum, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale School of Medicine. He specializes in vitreoretinal surgery and treats complex retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. His research focuses on two primary areas: mechanisms driving metastasis in uveal melanoma and developing retinal imaging biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases. His lab has identified novel epigenetic mechanisms in cancer progression and demonstrated retinal ischemic perivascular lesions (RIPLs) as a cardiovascular disease biomarker.
Dr. Bakhoum holds dual appointments in Ophthalmology and Pathology. He received his MD and PhD from The University of Texas Medical Branch, followed by residency and fellowship training at Nassau University Medical Center, The University of Texas Medical Branch, and the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He leads the Bakhoum Lab, which bridges clinical care and translational research.
His awards include grants from the NEI, Department of Defense, and Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation. He actively mentors students and contributes to courses in ophthalmology. His recent work emphasizes early cancer detection, non-invasive diagnostics, and leveraging retinal imaging for systemic disease surveillance.
