Ben Stansfield is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Health Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. He holds a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Strathclyde and is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. His primary affiliation is the Ageing Well Research Group within the Institute for Applied Health Research, focusing on developing methods for measuring physical activity and sedentary behavior using wearable sensors. Research interests include biomechanics, activity monitoring, and free-living context analysis. Current projects involve EPSRC-funded studies on children’s physical activity, hip replacement patient mobility, and MS Society-funded tremor research in multiple sclerosis. He has collaborated with NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Scottish Ballet, and PAL Technologies Ltd. His work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. Supervised 4 doctoral students, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications (48+). Active in presenting at conferences, including a 2013 talk on self-reported activity vs objective measures.
