Signe Horn Fuglesang is a Professor at the University of Oslo's Department of Culture, Religion, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. She holds a Dr. philos. from the University of Bergen (1975) and has held academic roles including Assistant Professor (1986) and Full Professor (1992). Her research focuses on Viking and medieval art, iconography, and interdisciplinary studies of art and texts. She has supervised over 30 master's and 10 doctoral students. Education: Began studies in art history and archaeology at Oslo and Bergen Universities (1956–1975). Conducted research in Rome, Washington DC, and Scandinavia, with guest lectures at Kiel, Cambridge, Cornell, and others. Positions include Director of the Centre for Viking and Medieval Studies (1999–2002) and member of the Norwegian Academy for Science and Letters. Research emphasizes Viking ornamentation, medieval iconography, and artifact production. Ongoing projects include Scandinavian art from 750–1150 CE and high medieval pewter spoons. Awards include Fellowship at the Norwegian Academy for Science and Letters.
