Dr. Jennifer Lavoie is a Chancellor's Fellow in Global Challenges at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, and Deputy Head (Research) of the Institute for Education, Community & Society (IECS). She holds adjunct roles including a James Fellowship in Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on children's perceptions of justice, socio-cultural mechanisms of moral development, and interactions with the justice system, particularly in contexts like Barnahus models and forensic interviewing. She has held prestigious fellowships at UC Irvine, Cambridge, and Sydney. Education: PhD from McGill University. Teaching includes undergraduate courses in Educational Studies and postgraduate modules on Child & Adolescent Development and Children & the Justice System. She supervises PhD students in areas like child-centered justice models, forensic disclosure, and developmental trajectories of antisocial behavior. Research interests span child maltreatment, cognitive/moral development, and the psychology of lying. Over 25 peer-reviewed publications address topics like lie-telling in children, forensic interviewing protocols, and the impact of ADHD on aggression. Awards include the Fulbright Fellowship and postdoctoral roles at UK and US institutions. Key contributions include developing the Socialization of Lying Questionnaire and analyzing pandemic-era perceptions of neglect. She advises on policy for child-friendly justice systems and has collaborated on EU-level forensic interviewing guidelines.
