Rachelle Buchbinder is a Research Professor and Director of the Monash Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Monash University. She holds an NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellowship and has dual expertise as a rheumatologist and clinical epidemiologist. Her work focuses on musculoskeletal disorders, reducing overdiagnosis/overtesting, improving healthcare efficiency, and clinical trial methodology. Education: MBBS (Honours) from Monash University (1981), MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Toronto (1993), PhD in Public Health from Monash University (2006). Research interests include arthritis, low back pain, clinical care standards implementation, imaging overuse reduction, and decision aids for musculoskeletal conditions. She co-leads the ANZMUSC Clinical Trials Network and chaired The Lancet Low Back Pain Series (2018). Key projects: Reducing inappropriate healthcare waste, strengthening clinical trial networks, developing core outcome measures for shoulder disorders, and improving imaging report practices. Current grants include NHMRC Program Grant and Partnership Centre funding. Awards: Australian NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellowship. Leadership roles include Coordinating Editor for Cochrane Musculoskeletal and Chair of the Australian Rheumatology Association Database Committee.
