Associate Professor Lisa Whop is an Associate Professor and Senior Fellow at the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research at the Australian National University (ANU). She holds a BMedSc, MAppEpid, and PhD in Epidemiology. Her research focuses on cervical cancer control, vaccine-preventable diseases, and achieving health equity for Indigenous Australians through an Indigenist research approach. She leads projects including the Centre for Research Excellence on Targeted Approaches to Improve Cancer Services (TACTICS) and an ARC Discovery grant on HPV vaccination uptake among Indigenous adolescents.
Her work emphasizes culturally appropriate health interventions, including HPV self-testing and improving cervical screening access. Key achievements include developing the What Matters 2 Adults wellbeing measure and advocating for inclusive health language policies. She has secured significant grants and fellowships, including NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow status.
