Professor Raymond Lovett is the Associate Director of Culture and Wellbeing Research at the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research, located within the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at The Australian National University (ANU). He holds an adjunct Fellowship at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). A Ngiyampaa/Wongaibon Aboriginal epidemiologist, his expertise spans health services research, large-scale data analysis, and public health policy development. Lovett’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc), a Master of Applied Epidemiology (MAE), and a PhD.
His research focuses on cohort studies, social epidemiology, and cultural determinants of health and wellbeing, with additional interests in psychometrics and data sovereignty. Recent work emphasizes ethical research practices, Indigenous health equity, and surveillance systems for zoonotic diseases in Aboriginal populations.
Key projects include developing an Indigenous Commercial Determinants of Health index, establishing a National Aboriginal Health Research Ethics Committee, and analyzing long-term health impacts of settler-colonial risks. His 99+ publications and 40+ projects reflect a commitment to advancing Indigenous health equity through rigorous, culturally grounded research.
