Prof. Dr. Michael Pilgermann is a Professor of Applied Computer Science at Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) since 2021, specializing in IT security for critical infrastructures. Affiliated with the Faculty of Computer Science, Business and Law and the Department of Computer Science and Media, he holds a PhD from the University of Glamorgan (2006) and brings 15 years of industry experience in public administration and business security operations. His research focuses on operational security automation and standardization for critical infrastructure protection, with recent emphasis on medical device security (MDS2/SBOM frameworks), network security, and IoT/SmartHome systems. Current projects include AI-driven vulnerability analysis for healthcare devices and cybersecurity education frameworks. Publication trends (2023-2025) reveal concentrated work in medical cybersecurity , featuring collaborations with medical informatics researchers and practical implementations in hospital settings. His work bridges academic research with operational security needs, particularly in critical infrastructure protection through standards-based automation. Dr. Pilgermann actively supervises 20+ theses (2021-2025) covering network security, malware analysis, Zero Trust architectures, and Passkey technologies. He leads the SCALE-C research project (cybersecurity/eLearning) and partners with Stadtwerke Brandenburg, BSI, and Umbrella Consulting. He directs the MedSec group for medical device security, operates the DemoSOC Lab for security monitoring, and utilizes the Network and Security Laboratory for hands-on research in critical infrastructure protection and threat detection systems.
