Prof. Dr. Vicki Täubig is Professor of Educational Science with a focus on Extracurricular Education and Socialization at the University of Rostock's Faculty of Philosophy, having relocated from the University of Siegen in February 2021. Her work examines institutional frameworks of child and youth welfare, particularly educational support systems within residential care and school-welfare service interfaces. Her research centers on child/youth welfare , educational support mechanisms , and food's role in socialization within childcare institutions. She investigates how organizational structures in residential facilities shape adolescents' eating practices and educational experiences, emphasizing migration contexts and refugee social work through ethnographic and participatory methodologies. Recent publications reveal consistent focus on mixed-methods analyses of residential care settings, tracking evolving themes from school-cooperation challenges (2016-2019) to food-socialization dynamics (2018-2024). Her work increasingly incorporates adolescent perspectives through participatory action research while maintaining critical analysis of institutional power structures and educational inequality. Secured major funding includes a German Research Foundation (DFG) project (2018-2022) on eating practices in residential childcare and North Rhine-Westphalia's Ministry-funded study (2016-2019) on school integration. She collaborates with Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and University of Hildesheim researchers while mentoring project staff like Bettina Rabe and Dr. Helena Kliche. Her Rostock-based team conducts fieldwork in childcare facilities using ethnographic observation, participatory documentation, and multi-stakeholder interviews. Current activities include presenting findings at international conferences like Oslo's CHILDLIFE and Oxford's Ethnography and Education events, with emphasis on translating research into practical welfare service improvements.
