Khay Fong is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Chemistry at Monash University, serving as Course Coordinator for the Masters in Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technology since 2023. She holds a PhD in Pharmacy from Monash University (2013) and has held prestigious fellowships, including the Victorian Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2014–2017) and the National Center of Competence in Research Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women (2017–2018). Prior to Monash, she was a Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Newcastle (2019–2023). Her research focuses on on-demand drug delivery and environmental microplastics . Key contributions include developing nanotechnology platforms for drug delivery using amphiphilic lipids and investigating microplastic pollution in marine environments, particularly the Great Barrier Reef. She collaborates with the Swiss NGO Sail and Explore Association on citizen science projects. Khay leads projects such as the 'Investigating Interactions between Human Microbiome and Lipid-Based Drug Delivery Systems' (ANSTO-funded, 2023–2025) and 'Potentiating Physicochemical Techniques with Machine Learning' (ANSTO/Noxopharm, 2023–2026). Notable awards include the Early Career Research Award (2016). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, addressing environmental protection and health innovation. Active in professional organizations, she serves as a director of the Australian Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (AusCRS).
