Dr. Claudia Henninger is a Professor of Fashion Marketing Management at the University of Manchester, based in the Department of Materials. Her research focuses on sustainability within the fashion industry, particularly the circular economy, collaborative consumption, and consumer behavior. She holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2015), exploring corporate identity in the UK’s green slow-fashion industry. Claudia chairs the Academy of Marketing’s Sustainability Special Interest Group (SIG) and has authored/co-edited books like Sustainability in Fashion – A Cradle to Upcycle Approach.
Her work spans academic publications in journals such as the European Journal of Marketing and Journal of Fashion Marketing & Management, alongside contributions to policy-relevant research. Notable projects include analyzing circular economy barriers in Chile and exploring digital fashion adoption among Gen Z. She has received awards including the Emerald Literati Network Awards (2017) and the DRES ME sustainability initiative recognition (2022).
Claudia’s research integrates technical and social science perspectives, addressing microfibers, modular garments, and cultural sustainability practices (e.g., Indonesia’s Baduy Tribe). She collaborates internationally and leads educational initiatives, including mentoring programs for graduate teaching assistants. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing environmental protection and responsible consumption.
