Dr Katherine Duffy is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School. She holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Strathclyde and an MA from the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on consumer culture, sustainability in clothing circularity, and digitalization of consumption practices, adopting qualitative interpretivist methods. She collaborates closely with Prof. Deirdre Shaw on circular fashion ecosystem initiatives and supervises doctoral research in this area.
Dr Duffy’s work bridges academia and industry through projects like the National Citizens Clothing Circularity Strategy (NCCCS) and the Institute of Positive Fashion’s circular fashion blueprint. Her teaching spans Digital Marketing Strategy (UG, PGT, MBA), Research Methods, and Retail Marketing. She has held visiting scholar positions at the University of Bath and Lund University, and served as an external examiner for London College of Fashion, Glasgow Caledonian University, and the University of Dundee.
Her research has been funded by the ESRC, Academy of Marketing, Glasgow Knowledge Exchange, and the British Fashion Council. Key areas of expertise include consumption markets, digitalization, clothing sustainability, and interpretive research methods.
Dr Duffy’s publications span journals like Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Research, and Gender, Work and Organization, with a focus on retail innovation, digital tools for sustainability, and cultural branding in fashion.
