Prof. Thian Leong Joseph Ooi is a Professor of Real Estate at the National University of Singapore (NUS), affiliated with the NUS Business School and previously with the School of Design and Environment. He serves as Co-Director of the Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies (IREUS) and Director of the Executive Certificate in Real Estate Finance (ECREF) programme. His leadership roles include Vice-Dean (Academic) of SDE (2016–2021), Deputy Director of IREUS (2015–2021), and international leadership in organizations like the International Real Estate Society (2020–2021). Education: PhD in Real Estate Finance from the University of Manchester (1998) Research Focus: REITs, property development, adaptive reuse, and energy efficiency in commercial buildings Awards: NUS Outstanding Educator Award, International Real Estate Society Achievement Award, and Fellow of the Weimer School His research spans over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with notable contributions to understanding REIT behaviors, property age impacts, and market dynamics. He has advised organizations globally and contributed to policy through roles like board member of the Asian Real Estate Society and editorial boards of real estate journals. Teaching excellence is a hallmark, recognized through the NUS Teaching Academy Fellowship. His work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing real-world applications in real estate finance and urban development.
