Deniz Abukan is an Associate Professor of Public Finance at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, where he has served as Head of the Department of Public Finance since 2019. He previously held full-time appointments as Research Assistant at Ankara University and Yalova University, and as Assistant Professor at Ahi Evran University from 2018 to 2025. His entire career has unfolded within the Turkish public higher-education system.

Research Interests
Abukan's research triangulates fiscal theory, fiscal history and financial economics. He analyses long-run structural changes in public budgeting and taxation, the political economy of European and Turkish fiscal policy, and the distributional consequences of tax design. Recent work explores wealth inequality in the globalization era, the fiscal sociology of tax morale, and comparative evaluation of COVID-19 fiscal packages.

Across 43 scholarly outputs (12 journal articles, 13 book chapters, 18 conference papers) his publications pivot around three clusters: (1) Turkish fiscal transformation post-1980, (2) global imbalances and inequality, and (3) theoretical/historical studies on taxation and the state.
