Professor Paul Petrie is a faculty member in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide, holding the title of Professor. He concurrently serves as Affiliate Professor at the University of Adelaide, Associate Professor at Flinders University, and Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW. His primary role is as Principal Scientist – Viticulture and Program Leader of the Irrigated Crops group at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI). Education: PhD in Canopy Management from Lincoln University (New Zealand). Professional Experience: Extensive work in the Australian wine industry, including roles at the Australian Wine Research Institute and Treasury Wine Estates. Research Focus: Enhancing vineyard resilience through climate change adaptation strategies, dry winter management, and vintage compression research. Innovates technology applications like smartphone thermal cameras for grapevine water status assessment and action cameras for trunk disease mapping. Explores high-density orchard systems and post-bushfire recovery of fruit crops. Professional Activities: Supervision of higher-degree research students, editorial board memberships, and committee roles in agricultural research. Active in mentoring and industry-extension collaborations. Affiliations: Based at the Plant Research Centre (Waite campus), involved with SARDI and multiple university collaborations.
