Julie Newman is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Structural Geology and Tectonics at Texas A&M University, holding the Ray C. Fish Professorship. Her research focuses on understanding the rheology and deformation mechanisms of Earth's lithosphere through integrated field, experimental, and microstructural analyses. She investigates strain localization, fluid-rock interactions, and metamorphic processes in crustal and upper mantle rocks, utilizing techniques like optical microscopy, electron microscopy (including EBSD), and geochemical analysis. Education: She earned her Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Rochester. Awards: She was recognized as a Montague – Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar at Texas A&M University (2010).
