Dr. Arman Ahnood is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head (Research & Innovation) in Biomedical Engineering at RMIT University's School of Engineering. He holds a M.Eng. from the University of Cambridge (2006) and a Ph.D. in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from University College London (2011). His research focuses on biomedical signals and systems, particularly applying innovations in electronics and optoelectronics for healthcare advancements. Prior to RMIT, he conducted research at the University of Melbourne, UCL, and Cambridge, specializing in bionic devices, semiconductors, and renewable energy. Research interests include bionic microdevices, point-of-care diagnostics, and diamond-based neural interfaces. Projects involve developing subcutaneous brain-sensing platforms, diamond electrodes for cellular control, and low-cost bilirubin detection tools. Teaching roles include coordinating courses like OENG1131 (Advanced Biomedical Electronics) and OENG1137 (Rehabilitation Engineering). Key projects include smart surgical tools for brain tumor removal, self-sufficient microfluidic systems, and photonic textile materials for wound healing. Supervision opportunities are open for Masters and PhD students in biomedical engineering domains. Collaborations span academic and industry partners, emphasizing translational research in neural interfaces and medical device innovation.
