Dr. Ben B. Xu is a Full Professor in Materials and Energy at Northumbria University, specializing in functional materials, energy conversion/storage, and sustainable technology. He holds visiting professorships at UCLA, University of Alberta, and others. His research focuses on morphing structures, flexible electronics, and circular economy solutions using recycled plastics. Xu chairs the Materials Characterisation & Properties Group at IoM3 and serves as associate editor for journals like Advanced Composites and Hybrid Materials. He has published over 280 peer-reviewed articles (h-index 66) and earned awards including the 2025 CIBSE Innovation Award and 2024 World Top 2% Scientists recognition.
