Pingan Song

Prof. Pingan Song is a Full Professor and Associate Head of School (Research) at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Agriculture and Environmental Science. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Zhejiang University (2009) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and Queensland Academy of Arts and Science (QAAS). A Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2023), his research focuses on fire-retardant polymers, bioderived materials, and functional nanocomposites for applications in construction, electronics, and energy.

His research integrates polymer chemistry, nanomaterials, and fire science to develop sustainable solutions. Key areas include: (1) Advanced fire retardants for polymers; (2) Bio-based composites; (3) Fire-warning sensors; (4) Thermal management systems. He pioneers eco-friendly synthesis methods and structure-property optimization in materials science.

Prof. Song has secured over AU$11M in research funding, including ARC Future Fellowship, Discovery, Linkage, and Research Hub grants. He leads projects on fire resilience (e.g., ARC Research Hub for FRIASA) and sustainable materials.
