Bogum Yoon serves as Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Leadership at Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs. Her academic home focuses on preparing educators for diverse learning environments through critical pedagogical frameworks. Her educational trajectory demonstrates deep specialization in English education: BA from Hongik University (Seoul, Republic of Korea) MSE from State University of New York at Potsdam PhD from State University of New York at Buffalo All degrees maintain consistent focus on English education foundations. Yoon's research pioneers critical global literacies frameworks that challenge hegemonic language practices while centering immigrant and multilingual student experiences. Her work interrogates raciolinguistic hierarchies in educational systems, analyzes cultural representation in children's literature, and develops positional identity models for justice-oriented teaching. She bridges theoretical constructs with practical classroom applications through teacher education initiatives focused on linguistic responsiveness and critical consciousness development. Recent publications (2022-2025) reveal three dominant scholarly trajectories: (1) dismantling White Standardized English dominance through multilingual policy advocacy, (2) advancing middle grades critical pedagogy through organizational and teacher collaboration studies, and (3) developing critical global literacies frameworks for global meaning-making. These intersecting lines of inquiry consistently prioritize equity-centered approaches for English language learners and immigrant students.
