Hans Pedersen is a Professor in the History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religious Studies Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), affiliated with the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. He holds a PhD from the University of South Florida, an MA from Northern Illinois University, and a BS from Florida Institute of Technology. His teaching spans courses like Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and Existentialism. Research focuses on Heidegger, 19th- and 20th-century Continental Philosophy, and Philosophy of Action, particularly examining Heidegger’s interpretations of Kant, critiques of causal explanations of human action, and existential themes in posthumanism.
Recent work includes co-editing the Routledge Handbook of Contemporary Existentialism (2024) and exploring existentialism’s intersections with AI ethics. His publications analyze Heidegger’s concepts of freedom, death, and authenticity, often contrasting with Husserl and Kierkegaard. Pedersen has presented widely on Heideggerian philosophy, including at the Heidegger Circle and international conferences. He maintains active engagement with interdisciplinary debates in phenomenology, moral psychology, and existential thought.
