Robert Porter is a Lecturer in Sociology at Ulster University and Director of the Centre for Media Research. His research bridges cultural theory, political philosophy, and media studies, with a focus on poststructuralism, everyday politics, and the environmental consequences of digital life.
His work explores themes of resistance, authenticity, and institutional critique, particularly through projects like 'Failed States and Creative Resistances' (AHRC-funded) and 'Rematerializing the Digital' (British Academy). Recent publications examine jazz historiography, schizoanalysis, and academic institutions through narrative methodologies.
Porter advises PhD students researching escapism, anarchist temporality, and folk traditions. He leads the Centre for Media Research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations in cultural theory and digital studies.
