Klaus Weber is a Professor of Management & Organizations at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, holding the Thomas G. Ayers Chair in Energy Resource Management and serving as faculty director for Sustainability and Social Impact. He maintains affiliations with the Department of Sociology and the Northwestern Trienens Institute for Sustainability and Energy.
Dr. Weber's educational background includes:
- PhD in Organization and Management from the University of Michigan (2003)
- MS in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics (1995)
- BA in European Studies and Business from ESB Reutlingen & Middlesex University (1994)
His research centers on cultural and institutional theory, environmental sustainability transitions, social movements-corporate interactions, and economic globalization. Employing cultural-institutional methodologies, he examines how organizations navigate complex sustainability challenges, market-movement dynamics, and global development processes through narrative construction, emotional competence, and institutional actorhood.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals consistent focus on institutional complexity in sustainability contexts, with increasing emphasis on environmental systems (2019-2023). His work bridges organizational theory with practical sustainability applications, particularly in energy systems and geoengineering imaginaries, while maintaining foundational contributions to institutional drift and organizational polity frameworks.
Among his distinguished honors are the ASQ Scholarly Contribution Award (2014), Clifford Geertz Best Article Prize (2009), and dual Sidney J. Levy Teaching Awards (2005-2006, 2007-2008). His complete recognition portfolio includes:
- Research Committee Service Award, OMT Division, Academy of Management (2018)
- Faculty Fellow, Yale Center for Cultural Sociology (2014-Present)
- ASQ Award for Scholarly Contribution (2014)
- Faculty Award for Diversity, Northwestern Graduate School (2014)
- Clifford Geertz Best Article Prize (2009)
- Sidney J. Levy Teaching Award (2005-2006, 2007-2008)
