Margarita Tsoutsoura is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis. She also holds research roles at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). Her academic career includes prior appointments at Cornell University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Her research focuses on corporate finance, entrepreneurship, political polarization in finance, and labor market dynamics. Notable projects include studies on cross-subsidization in lending crises, partisan alignment in financial decisions, and the impact of judicial bias in bankruptcy proceedings. Tsoutsoura has published in top journals like the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Finance, and Journal of Financial Economics. She earned her PhD in Finance from Columbia University, MSc in Financial Engineering from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and BSc in Economics from the University of Piraeus. Her work has been widely covered by major media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Bloomberg. Her awards include the Jensen Prize, Wharton School-WRDS Award, and WFA Trefftzs Award. Tsoutsoura teaches courses on family firms, corporate finance, and governance, emphasizing practical applications through case studies and guest lectures.
