J. Daniel Chi

J. Daniel Chi is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance at the Lee Business School, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Texas A&M University, an M.B.A. from Idaho State University, and a B.E. from Qingdao University in China. His research focuses on corporate finance, product-market competition, behavioral finance, and financial markets. He has published in top journals like the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Journal of Corporate Finance.

Chi teaches courses on corporate finance, financial modeling, and behavioral finance. He served as inaugural director of UNLV’s Master of Science in Quantitative Finance (MSQF) program (2019-2022). He is an advisory board member of UNLV’s Institute for Financial Literacy and Wellness, promoting financial education through counseling and seminars. Additionally, he serves as CFO and Vice President of the Nevada Center on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan organization focused on national security and international affairs.

His work explores topics like cash holdings, stock price inflation, and managerial incentives. He has received both UNLV’s Research and Teaching Awards in Finance. His community engagement includes speaking on topics such as retirement planning, 401(k)/Roth IRA strategies, and the economic impact of tariffs.
