Young B. Moon is a Professor and Department Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University, holding the William J. Smith Professorship in Manufacturing Enterprises. He leads the Institute for Manufacturing Enterprises (IME) and serves as a faculty coordinator for the SAP University Alliance program. With a PhD from Purdue University, his expertise spans Cyber-Manufacturing Systems, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Manufacturing, and ERP systems. His research integrates machine learning, blockchain, and simulation to enhance manufacturing resilience and sustainability.
Education: PhD (Purdue University), MS (Stanford University), BS (Seoul National University). Professional credentials include P.E. licensure (NY), CFPIM, and CMfgE certifications. He actively participates in organizations like INCOSE, ABET, ASME, and IFIP, serving on ABET’s Board of Delegates and Engineering Area Delegation.
Research focuses on cybersecurity for manufacturing systems, including intrusion detection, attack resilience, and blockchain applications. Recent work emphasizes recovery architectures and frameworks like DACDI for addressing cyber threats. He has published over 130 articles and supervised six doctoral students.
Awards include INCOSE’s Outstanding Service Award and a Fulbright Scholarship. Visiting roles at MIT, KAIST, and others highlight his global impact. Current projects involve secure cyber-manufacturing systems, sustainable product realization, and ERP integration with simulation.
