Dr. Allison Oakes is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University, with affiliations to the Biotechnology program. Her research applies biotechnology techniques to native species conservation.
Education includes:
- PhD in Plant Science and Biotechnology (SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 2015)
- BS in Biotechnology (SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 2009)
Research focuses on developing disease-resistant native trees through genetic engineering and optimizing micropropagation techniques. Current work extends chestnut blight resistance methods to American elm preservation.
Teaches upper-division courses in Biotechnology and Genetics Lab. Serves as faculty advisor for the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team.
