Dr. Igor Poljak is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of the University of Zagreb, specializing in dendroflora, population genetics, and conservation biology. He holds a PhD in Biotechnical Sciences (2014) and a Master's in Forestry Engineering (2009), both from the same institution. His professional experience includes roles as a senior postdoctoral assistant and junior researcher.
Research Interests:
- Population genetics and morphological/chemical variability of tree species
- Conservation biology of endangered plants and forest ecosystems
- Ecological adaptation of marginal populations
- Taxonomic clarification of plant species through genetic and morphometric analysis
Current Projects:
- Investigating leaf and fruit variability in species like Pyrus, Castanea, and Salix
- Studying chestnut blight resistance and fungal pathogen dynamics
- Genetic diversity of Juniperus and Pistacia taxa in Croatia
