Saien Xie is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton University, jointly appointed with the Princeton Materials Institute. He leads the Xie Group, which specializes in atomically thin materials and devices. His research focuses on van der Waals heterostructures, complex oxides, and nanoscale device physics for applications in quantum technologies, transistors, and photonics. Education includes a Ph.D. from Cornell University (2018) and B.S. from Tsinghua University (2012). Research interests span quantum engineering, nanomaterial synthesis, moiré superlattices, and optoelectronic characterization of 2D materials using advanced nanofabrication and spectroscopic techniques. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on quantum confinement effects, interfacial phenomena in heterostructures, and novel device architectures. Recent work explores miniband formation in moiré systems and strain-engineered superlattices. Awards: Packard Fellowship (2024), Kavli Fellowship (2018), MRS Graduate Gold Award (2018), Nichols Findley Award (2017) Advises 7 graduate students and collaborates on projects funded by Schmidt Transformative Technology and MRSEC grants. Leads laboratory facilities for thin-film synthesis and nanoscale characterization at the Engineering Quadrangle.
