Dr. Ziyu Wang is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Weiss Lab at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. He holds a PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (2022) and a BE in Biomedical Engineering (2017, Honours Class I) from the University of Sydney. His research focuses on advancing biomaterials and bioprinting for vascular and soft tissue regeneration, with a particular emphasis on arterial grafts, wound healing, and cardiovascular applications.
Wang's work integrates tissue engineering, biomaterials science, and regenerative medicine. He has pioneered bioprinted vascularized skin analogs and developed elastomeric materials for arterial regeneration. His lab also explores the role of tropoelastin and polyglycerol sebacate (PGS) in enhancing tissue integration and mechanical properties. Notable achievements include the 2023 ACvA Excellence Award for Game-Changing Cardiovascular Research and collaborative projects funded by the National Heart Foundation and SENS Research Foundation.
Awards & Grants:
- 2023 ACvA Game Changer Award
- Biomimetic Repair of Age-Related Elastic Lamellae Damage (SENS Foundation)
- Biodegradable Aortic Graft Development (Heart Foundation Vanguard Grant)
His recent publications highlight advancements in vascular graft design, wound microbiome modulation, and mesenchymal stem cell expansion platforms. Current projects aim to address age-related vascular degeneration and improve surgical outcomes through engineered biomaterials.
