Zen Makuch is a prominent academic and legal expert in environmental policy, sustainability, and international law, holding the title of Professor at Imperial College London's Centre for Environmental Policy (part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences). He serves as Director of Sustainable Transitions and has led interdisciplinary research and education programs addressing climate change, agriculture, and energy systems. His affiliations include the Grantham Institute, the Network of Excellence in Air Quality, and the Energy Policy group.
Key professional roles include Head of the Centre for Environmental Policy (2011–2017), where he expanded research revenue and diversity initiatives, and Sessional Professorships at institutions like the University of Leuven and University of Malta. He has advised governments, international bodies (WTO, World Bank), and NGOs on regulatory frameworks for sustainability, trade, and climate change.
His research focuses on climate mitigation technologies (e.g., CCS), environmental law, and policy innovation.
