Elena Cima is a Lecturer at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the University of Geneva’s Law School. She holds a PhD in International Law, an LL.B from the University of Milan, and an LL.M from Yale Law School. As Co-Director of the Geneva Summer School in International Law, she bridges academic research with institutional leadership.

Her research intersects international trade, environmental law, and energy policy, focusing on disputes involving climate change, sustainable development, and investment arbitration. Key themes include reconciling economic interests with environmental protection and the legal frameworks governing energy sources.
Recent publications address WTO subsidy rules for sustainability, climate-related trade arrangements, energy charter treaties, and the role of trade in the circular plastics economy. She advises 14 graduate students on topics ranging from investment arbitration to climate disputes.
