Anna-Alexandra Marhold is an Assistant Professor at Leiden University's Institute of Public Law and the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies. She specializes in international economic law, with a focus on the intersection of international trade law with energy and environmental regulation.

Her research explores the crisis in international trade law, security interests in international economic law, EU energy policy and WTO obligations, carbon border adjustment mechanisms, sustainable energy transition, the Energy Charter Treaty, OPEC, law and economics approaches to trade/energy regulation, access to natural resources, public goods, and energy transit regulation. She integrates energy security, sustainable development, and consumer protection into her work.

Marhold teaches Public International Law at Leiden University, including International Trade Law in the IDSA Advanced LL.M and Duke-Leiden Institute programs. She is also a Visiting Professor at Vermont Law School and a recurring lecturer at the Clingendael Institute, particularly in the WTO-Netherlands Trainee Programme.
