William P. Johnson is a Professor at the Saint Louis University School of Law, where he serves as the former Dean (2017–2024) and directs the Center for International and Comparative Law. His academic career includes visiting professorships at institutions such as Bucerius Law School (Germany), Université Paris-Dauphine (France), and Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania). Johnson holds a B.A. from the University of Minnesota (1995) and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (2001).
His research focuses on international commercial law, particularly the CISG, and addresses challenges arising from conflicting legal frameworks in transnational transactions. He has authored numerous articles on the CISG, international legal education, and diversity in legal professions. Johnson’s professional affiliations include leadership roles in the American Bar Association International Law Section (ABA ILS), where he has held positions such as Section Council member and committee chair.
Prior to academia, Johnson practiced corporate and commercial law at Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee, specializing in cross-border transactions. He also served as a judicial clerk for Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Russell A. Anderson. Johnson’s community engagement includes roles with the Hispanic Bar Association of St. Louis and the Mound City Bar Association.
