Dr. Wei Li is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marshall University School of Medicine, specializing in cardiovascular biology and thrombosis research. His work focuses on thymidine phosphorylase signaling in platelet activation, thrombosis development, and metabolic disorders. Li employs intravital microscopy thrombosis models and molecular biology techniques to investigate novel cardiovascular therapeutics.
Li's research has demonstrated that thymidine phosphorylase functions as a signaling molecule enhancing thrombosis without bleeding side effects, suggesting potential for safer antiplatelet therapies. Current projects investigate thymidine phosphorylase's role in abdominal aortic aneurysm formation, SARS-CoV-2-related thrombosis, and lipid metabolism disorders. His laboratory maintains advanced capabilities for vascular biology research including FeCl₃-induced thrombosis models and ischemia/reperfusion models.
