Verena Kohler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University, Sweden, where her research group operates from the Hospital area (locations 6K and 6L) in Umeå.
Her research centers on two primary domains:
- Proteostasis and Aging: Investigating cellular protein quality control (PQC) systems, chaperone networks, and age-related disruptions leading to neurodegenerative disorders and cancer through high-throughput yeast screening.
- Infection Biology: As a Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR) member, she applies robotic high-content screening to identify infection intervention strategies and fundamental pathogen mechanisms.
Her flagship methodology leverages automated robotic systems for simultaneous screening of thousands of microbial strains and conditions, generating foundational insights for translational medicine applications in human health and disease.
