Professor Valerie Francis is a Professor in Construction Management at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design. She holds dual roles as the Chair in Construction and Assistant Dean (Research Facilities). With over a decade of industry experience as a civil engineer and project manager, her expertise bridges academia and practice. She completed a PhD on gender in construction and engineering, and holds a Master’s in Project Management.
Her research focuses on work-life balance in the construction industry, organizational effectiveness, and gender equity. Notably, she co-authored *Managing Work-Life Balance in Construction* (2009) and led an ARC-funded study on work-life strategies in live construction projects. She has secured nearly $500k in research funding and was awarded the NAWIC Crystal Vision Award (2010) and National Crystal Vision Award (2012).
As a recognized leader, she coordinates the Master of Construction Management program and investigates barriers to women’s career progression in construction, culminating in the development of a career typology for professional women.
