Uwe Gustav Kersting is a Professor in the Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and ExerciseTech. His research focuses on biomechanical injury prevention, sports footwear design, and athletic performance optimization. Key areas include ankle sprain mechanisms, surface-traction interactions, and injury biomechanics in sports like handball, snowboarding, and futsal.
Research interests emphasize musculoskeletal health, combining experimental and computational models to improve athlete safety and performance. Recent work explores how footwear and playing surfaces influence injury risk and movement efficacy. Collaborations span biomechanical engineering, sports medicine, and athletic training disciplines.
He leads two major projects: 'Preventing ankle sprains by reducing lateral shoe-surface friction' (2017-2021) and 'Characterization of mechanical & biomechanical risk factors related to ankle sprain injuries in sports footwear' (2020-2024). Over 250 peer-reviewed publications and datasets demonstrate his contributions to sports science and clinical biomechanics.
