معرفی
Dr. Andrew Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Sport and Physical Activity within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. His academic background includes a BSc from the University of Bath, an MSc in Sports Biomechanics from Liverpool John Moores University, and a PhD from Sheffield Hallam (2012), focusing on running injuries and biomechanical risk factors. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) with nearly a decade of teaching experience, specializing in biomechanics and performance analysis across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Research interests center on foot/ankle biomechanics, gait analysis, running injury prevention, and rugby performance analysis. Notable projects include developing novel running shoe designs and field-based gait retraining to reduce injury risk. His work integrates biofeedback interventions and explores performance indicators in elite rugby. Recent studies have addressed gait complexity in mass-participation runs and individualized load-velocity profiling in strength training.
- Key Research Themes: Running biomechanics, injury prevention, sports footwear, gait retraining
- Grants: EPSRC Engineering for Life: Seed Corn Funding (2012)
- Awards: HEA Fellowship
Supervision includes doctoral projects on gait retraining for musculoskeletal conditions and the biomechanics of vertical treadmill exercise. His interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical and athletic applications, with publications in journals like Journal of Biomechanics and Sensors.
