Dr Alastair Jordan is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at York St John University, affiliated with the School of Science, Technology and Health. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science from York St John, an MSc in Sport Science (Clinical Biomechanics) from the University of Hull, and a PhD in Physiology of and Biomechanics during Vertical Treadmill Exercise from Sheffield Hallam University. His research focuses on gait analysis in populations such as individuals with dementia and intermittent claudication, aiming to improve mobility and quality of life through interventions like dementia-specific exercise programs and footwear design. He also investigates the use of vertical treadmills for rehabilitation and physical conditioning.
Dr Jordan teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, emphasizing technology-enhanced learning, and supervises dissertation students. His work includes collaborations across multiple institutions, particularly in footwear and treadmill-based interventions. He has practical experience in strength and conditioning with professional athletes and serves as a performance analyst for Yorkshire RUFC and Yorkshire Terriers RUFC. Awards include a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
