Jordan Curry is a Research Associate at Hull York Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically affiliated with the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Group. He completed his PhD in Medical Sciences funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, focusing on exercise oncology and digital technology interventions for cancer patients.
- Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Sciences, University of Sunderland (2015-2018)
- Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Northumbria University (2018-2019)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Research Practice, University of Hull (2019-2021)
- PhD in Medical Science, Hull York Medical School (2019-2022)
Jordan's research centers on integrating physical activity and digital technology to enhance quality of life for those living with and beyond cancer. His work focuses on developing personalized, technology-supported exercise interventions for cancer patients, particularly those with lung cancer. He actively engages in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) to ensure his research addresses real patient needs and is currently working on the CANFit project, which aims to improve survival outcomes for patients with higher risk of early recurrence of lung, breast, and bowel cancers through a personalized, home-based exercise program.
His publication record demonstrates a clear focus on digital health interventions in oncology, particularly examining the feasibility and acceptability of web-based exercise programs for lung cancer patients. His work spans systematic reviews, protocol development, and implementation research, showing progression from foundational work to more complex intervention studies. The research consistently addresses barriers to physical activity in cancer populations and explores how technology can overcome these barriers.
- Marie Curie, Tammy Prescott Patient and Public Involvement Award, £1,000 GBP (2024)
- Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Exercise Oncology Fellowship, $2,500 USD (2024)
Jordan serves as the PPI lead for the CANFit project and supervises student research in exercise oncology and special populations. He has secured funding through Yorkshire Cancer Research and has been involved in multiple projects examining physical activity interventions for cancer patients, including those receiving immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. His work bridges clinical practice and research, with a strong emphasis on translating findings into practical interventions.
As a member of the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Group, Jordan collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including Professor Fliss Murtagh, Professor Jason Boland, and other researchers focused on improving palliative care through evidence-based interventions. He also serves as Lead Communications Officer for the Cancer Prevention and Management Special Interest Group within the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
