Dr. Steve Hayes is a Lecturer in Biomechanics and Strength and Conditioning at the University of Hull, affiliated with the School of Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences within the Faculty of Health Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Hull (2020) and has prior roles including Biomechanics Laboratory Technician at the University of Hull and lecturing at Nottingham Trent University (2021–2023).
Qualifications include:
- BSc (Hons) in Sport Science (Biomechanics), Liverpool John Moores University (2005)
- MSc in Sports Biomechanics, Liverpool John Moores University (2008)
- PhD in Biomechanics and Robotics from the University of Hull (2020)
Research focuses on human movement in clinical and sporting contexts, including robotic exoskeletons for spinal cord injury rehabilitation, AI-driven analysis of biomechanical data, and athlete performance optimization. Notable collaborations involve wearable sensor technology and deep learning for gait analysis.
His recent work emphasizes:
- Exoskeleton-human interaction biomechanics
- AI applications in neurological development monitoring
- Sport-specific fatigue analysis (e.g., cricket fast bowling)
Honors include:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2022)
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (2018–2023)
He supervises postgraduate research on topics like human-equipment interaction and AI methodologies in biomechanics. Active in interdisciplinary groups like the Sport Health and Exercise Science (SHES) research cluster.
